The stove slab

Now that we had our new stove and a floor to put it on the work began. The stove was going to need a fireproof base. Since we planned on putting tile on both the dressing room and sauna room floors the fireproof base needed to have some height so the floor tile wouldn't come above the slab. A 3 1/2" concrete slab would do just fine and meet safety standards at the same time. I also needed two other things. The wood stove would need air to breath and we needed to bring water pipes up into the sauna. We installed a 4" dia. triple wall pipe just under where the draft control on the stove would be so the wood stove would get outside air rather than take air from the dressing room and we also set some 1 1/2" PVC pipe through the floor to the crawl space below the floor. Once the concrete set we would have a clean opening to bring in the water pipes. We thought we could color the concrete.....oh well.
